Coco Chanel, Nazy Spy

A new book by American writer Hal Vaughan suggests that Coco Chanel had an affair with a German spy and that she secretly has been a Nazi spy during the Second World War.

Sleeping with the enemy, Coco Chanel’s secret war” created a big scandal in the fashion industry: Gabrielle Chanel, the founder of Chanel French fashion house, the symbol of elegance, the designer that released women from corsets, creating a new silhouette,  the femme fatale known for her love life, was a Nazi spy?

Sadly and true according to Hal Vaughan which declare that the story is the result of more than three years research in the French, British, German, Italian, Polish and American archives. In his book he cites 225 secret documents that reveal the contract between Coco Chanel and the Nazi Germany. She was identified with the agent number F-7124 and has operated under the name “Westminster,” named after the Duke of Westminster with whom she had a love affair.

Why Chanel launched into this adventure? It wasn’t just because her lover Hans Günther Von Dincklage probably influenced her. The American journalist tries to find another explanation. Through her contacts with the Nazis, Coco Chanel seek to take the full control of the Chanel perfumes because she was possessing only a tiny part, the rest was hold by Wertheimer brothers.

After the Second World War ends Coco Chanel is arrested. With the help of her friend Winston Churchill she is released after few days. Died in 1971 at the age of 88 years, Chanel has always denied that she collaborated with Nazis.
